1) From a 280x250 area, within a widget (Flex based), I'd like to have a full Flyout of the MU Map Area of 840x380.

2) When a user clicks on the MU area, instead of being linked through to an original source; I'd like for a Story Area to appear. The SA could either be a drop down from the map, or it could be a Layer Over the map. (Users can toggle between the Map Area and the Story Area.)

Jeroen, I trust that all is well with you and yours.
Congrats on your graduation. I think you were still
a student when we talked last.

Can you believe that 11 months have passed, since
our exchange; wherein you shared that you were working
on an semi-API for Mapped Up. This 'gateway' would allow
for independent databanks to feed into Mapped Up. (See
your highlighted comments just below.)

What happened???? That wonderful idea seems not to
have made it into reality. PLEASE explain.

One of the things I'm very busy with, is expanding the worldmap you
refered to. Right now it's not possible to feed it with other sources
than the RSS aggregation I use. I'm working hard on expanding it and
making a sort-of API, o the map can also plug into other datasources,
such as your databank. Expect this to take at least one more moth
though, since it's a lot of work.

You guys really need to document this thoroughly; as it stands there's no documentation at all; users are left to guess at everything.

If I want to add a feed and it's not in your list, I can submit it, but it also says I can add it to my feeds right away, even though that's all I wanted to do. Problem is, there is no indication of how to do it--no visuals, no text description, etc.

And if the site is only designed for certain browsers and/or platforms, you haven't said that, so again, users are left to guess. Even worse, you provide no method of direct contact with anyone, and it looks as though you haven't done any work on this since 2006.

How do you expect users to use something you haven't provided the slightest bit of direction for?

General nerd talk

One of the features of MappedUp.com is the enrichment of RSS feeds with geodata. We use the W3C basic geo namespace for that. Some info about this can be found at: http://www.w3.org/2003/01/geo/

Simply put, every
of our RSS feeds contains 2 extra tags, <geo:lat> ad <geo:long>, for its geocoordinates. The city of London, for example, has these data:

  <geo:lat>51.5</geo:lat>
  <geo:long>-0.116667</geo:long>

Next to the
tags, geolocations can also be inserted inside the
tag, to point out the origin of the RSS feed in question. The default MappedUp feed has both: www.mappedup.com/rss/

WHO has its headquarters in Switzerland, so all news show as Swiss now, but the outbreaks are of course spread all over the world. That is the mapped up I was originally looking for when I found this webpage. Problem is though that unless a country name can be vacuumed from a headline by MappedUp, it might be non-productive to map it "my way". So I guess I'm asking for the impossible?

MappedUp "your way" is really enjoyable too, thanks for your work!
