In the announcement, Google stresses that this operating system is a completely new project and not affiliated with Google's Android OS, which, according to Google, was always meant to run on a variety of devices, including netbooks. Google acknowledges that the two operating systems might overlap in some areas, but the company believes that, ultimately, "choice will drive innovation for the benefit of everyone, including Google."

Here is how Google describes the OS:

Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS. We're designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds. The user interface is minimal to stay out of your way, and most of the user experience takes place on the web. And as we did for the Google Chrome browser, we are going back to the basics and completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don't have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates. It should just work.

The Google Chrome OS will run on top of a Linux kernel, though the exact details about the actual implementation are still vague.

Perfect for Netbooks

This kind of operating system would obviously be perfect for netbooks, which, after all, are meant to be constantly connected to the Internet and don't have a lot of resources. Currently, most netbooks run Windows XP, which, by now, is a rather antiquated operating system. With Windows 7, Microsoft tried to release a version for netbooks that would only run three applications at the same time (though Microsoft has since dropped this limit). Maybe Google is going to take this even further and will release an OS that will only run one application - Chrome.

With this, Google can obviously put its own web apps like Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Docs at the center of the user experience, and this is surely part of Google's motivation behind releasing this OS. But given that Chrome is simply a browser, any other web app would obviously also be able to run on it as well.

Ik noem de mannetjesmus Joop. Dat lijkt me wel een goede naam voor een mus. Het is tenslotte van oudsher echt een proletarische vogel. Die ga je geen Bernhard-Floris noemen of iets dergelijks.
Joop hipt stuiterend over mijn terras op zoek naar de kleinste kruimels die ik heb laten vallen. En dat zijn er meer dan ik zelf voor mogelijk hield.
Ik observeer hem. Ik verwonder mij over de hoeveelheid slimheid die er geprogrammeerd zit in dat hele kleine koppie. Toen Joop begin deze maand nog de verantwoordelijkheid droeg over een heel gezin, keek hij altijd nadrukkelijk rond voordat hij onder de dakpannen schoot. Nu is het kroost uitgevlogen, maar hij blijft nog steeds alert en kritisch.

Wanneer ik hem bijvoorbeeld een hoekje muesli-reep met yoghurtsmaak van Albert Heijn toewerp, pakt hij het op en vliegt standaard enkele meters verder. Je kunt het immers nooit weten met Albert Heijn, wat ze met de ene hand geven, pakken ze met de andere hand weer terug.
Vreemd genoeg seint Joop zijn echtgenote Truus niet in als hij iets gevonden heeft. Dit kon ik waarnemen toen ik een oude boterham had neergelegd. Truus vloog omslachtig een tuin verder, terwijl Joop als een gek de luttele meters heen en weer vloog tussen de boterham en het nest. Ik vond dit stom, maar best mogelijk dat Truus in haar wijsheid aldus zorgde voor een gevarieerde maaltijd. Of een strategie in de trant van: doe jij de boterham, doe ik het beleg.Toen ik vanavond op het bankje bij de sloot zat, kwam Joop de hoek om scheuren bij de knotwilg. Hij wist blijkbaar precies waar hij heen wilde.
Ik dacht daar over na. Is er bij een mus sprake van een zeker vermogen tot planning? Denkt hij: ik ga nu daar en daarheen vliegen? Een vluchtplan dus eigenlijk?

Het gaat minder goed dan vroeger met de mussenpopulatie. Misschien hang ik volgend jaar wel een nestkastje op voor Joop en Truus.
Toen ik kind was hing mijn vader ook een nestkastje op in de volkstuin die wij toen hadden. Maar daar mochten geen mussen in. Veel te ordinair, vond mijn vader. Nee, hij wilde koolmezen. Het vluchtgat in de nestkast werd daarom afgestemd op het slankere postuur van de koolmees. Eigenlijk was dat pure discriminatie. Dat komt er nou van. Nu zitten we met een mussentekort.

Ik probeer nu lessen te trekken uit het verleden. Zo doen we dat tegenwoordig. Dan hoeven we ons niet schuldig te voelen.
Ik ga het goedmaken met de mus. Ik laat bijvoorbeeld de ligusterheg staan en neem géén schutting van de Gamma. Zo'n heg schijnt namelijk ook musbevorderend te werken.
Ik deel mijn buiten genuttigde maaltijden met de mus. Ik zet een vogelhuisje in mijn tuin.

Zoals gezegd ga ik dat nestkastje doen. Gek eigenlijk dat in dit overgereguleerde Nederland daar helemaal geen vergunning voor nodig is. En dat daar geen precariobelasting over geheven wordt.
Maar laat ik onze immer ijverige bestuurders niet op ideeën brengen. Ambtenaren scheppen hun eigen werk door steeds meer regels te bedenken die zij dan weer kunnen handhaven.
Ik dwaal zoals gewoonlijk weer af.
Wat kan ik nog meer doen?
Ja, ik weet het: ik beloof Joop en Truus dat ik nooit meer blij zal zijn met een dooie mus!

Wade ensures that abortion is legal in every state, the
reality of abortion access today is increasingly dependent upon a
woman's socioeconomic status and geographic location. The average cost
of an abortion for a woman up to 12 weeks pregnant is $450 to $600 in
the Northwest region, and costs increase markedly after 12 weeks.


The
Hyde Amendment, passed in 1976, ended the use of federal Medicaid
funding for abortion, except when the woman's life would be endangered
by a full-term pregnancy, or in cases of rape or incest. As the debate
about the direction of health care reform takes off, the Obama
administration should recognize the critical importance of repealing
this fundamental barrier to women's access to comprehensive health care.


Fortunately,
Washington uses its own funds to cover the cost of abortion procedures
for women who qualify for Medicaid. However, women living in
neighboring states of Idaho and Oregon have limited government
assistance for the cost of their procedures.


Oregon does cover
abortion procedures through its Oregon Health Plan (OHP) program;
however, the program has seen significant budget cuts over the past
year making it difficult for women to receive OHP funding for abortion
in a timely manner.


Idaho does not use state funds to cover
abortion, except in cases of life endangerment, rape or incest. Idaho
even bans private insurance from covering abortion (except in cases of
life endangerment) without payment of an additional premium.


Women
in rural Washington, Oregon, and much of Idaho also experience limited
access to abortion providers. In fact, it is not possible to get an
abortion past 14 weeks in the state of Idaho. These women are faced
with the added time and expense of travel to get an abortion.


And this was before the economic crisis hit.


With
rising unemployment and cuts in social services added to the already
challenging landscape of abortion access in the Pacific Northwest,
increasing numbers of women experiencing an unintended pregnancy are
finding themselves in an economic crisis of their own.


Between
1994 and 2001, the rate of unintended pregnancy increased by 29 percent
among U.S. women whose income was below the poverty line, while it
decreased 20 percent among women with incomes at least twice the
federal poverty level.


During this time, state level
restrictions to abortion access, from dwindling numbers of abortion
providers particularly in rural areas, to state budget shortfalls
leading to cuts in Medicaid funding (as in the case of Oregon), have
left many poor women with few options when faced with an unintended
pregnancy.


Private abortion funds seek to fill some of the gaps
left by inadequate state laws and funding by providing women with some
or all of the funds needed to obtain an abortion.


The Community
Abortion Information and Resource (CAIR) Project is an all-volunteer
regional organization that provides abortion funding and hotline
support to women in Washington, Alaska, Idaho and Oregon. The fund
empowers women in need to be able to afford abortions and other
associated costs, such as travel and childcare. In 2007, the CAIR
Project gave $25,700 to women in need -- leveraging the $171,500 the
women were able to contribute to the cost of their procedures
themselves.


Since 1999, the CAIR Project has worked tirelessly
to break down financial barriers to abortion and improve reproductive
health care access for all women. As the gap between rich and poor in
our country continues to widen, each year we find that the number of
women who require our services increases.


Much of this increased
need is a result of a dramatic rise in the number of women calling us
from Oregon. In 2005, only 27 percent of our clients were from Oregon;
but in 2007, Oregon women made up 48 percent of the women we serve. The
drastic cuts to Oregon's Medicaid funding have led to virtually no new
Medicaid enrollments and indefinite processing times for applications.
As these women wait, the cost of their abortion and their financial
stress rise. Compounding the financial difficulty facing Oregon's
women, the state's unemployment rate soared above the national average
to 12 percent in April 2009.


As unemployment continues to rise
while social services are being slashed in our region, we expect the
need for our services will continue to increase. While it is critical
that we continue to engage in legal and political advocacy to improve
state and national policies around abortion and reproductive health, we
must also offer support to those who are in need of help now and can't
wait.

Onanista to taki wrażliwiec, temperamentny wrażliwiec przez to niektórzy patrzą na mnie zbyt schematycznie, do tego emocjonalny wrażliwiec. Onanista dużo pracował nad swoją wybuchowością i okazywaniem niezadowolenia, to akurat przejął jak to synowie mają w zwyczaju od rodzicielki. Moja mama była mistrzynią w obrażaniu się na wszystko i wszystkich i prawie zawsze musiały polecieć przy tym jakieś epitety. Można by powiedzieć, że jest to nawet jej sposób na życie – bycie nieszczęśliwą , w ten sposób szuka uwagi otoczenia. Onanista w porę zrozumiał, że nie tędy droga, został gejkiem i jakoś sobie radzi z tym wszystkim. Zmierzam do tego, że nawet w tych swoich emocjonalnych uniesieniach Onanista ma zasadę, że na uproszenia emocjonalne w postaci: kurew, choler, kutasów (ujów nie używa, bo prawdziwy facet musi mieć to coś, więc po co tak komplementować nadmiernie ) pozwala sobie tylko w kręgu osób bliskich a o ogólnie prowadzi się grzecznie jeżeli chodzi o słownictwo. Bo przecież czasami lepiej rzucić przysłowiowym mięsem niż tłumaczyć komuś, że zachował się niewłaściwie; prosto, krótko i jak oczyszcza z złej energii.

Following appeals from 4 countries, including India the
OOXML will not become an ISO Standard for some time now. The original
press release to that effect from ISO Website.

Economic
Times India reports that - Following appeals by four countries,
including India, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
has put on hold its earlier decision approving Microsoft’s Open Office
OXML (OOXML) file format as an international standard. OOXML is a format
for word-processing, presentations and spreadsheets. The other countries
that appealed against the ISO decision are Brazil, South Africa and
Venezuela. In April, OOXML was approved as an ISO/International
Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) International Standard, having received
the mandated over two-third votes of participating members. “The fact that
these countries have appealed against the OOXML after ISO’s approval in
April clearly shows the opposition to it. India has repeatedly voted
against the proprietary format. However, the country was not even allowed
to present all its comments against OOXML at the ballot resolution meeting
(BRM) at Geneva last year."

"All this has put a question mark on the credibility of ISO,” said a member of
the Bureau of Indian Standards committee, which was responsible for
examining the standard and deciding India’s position at ISO.

What is invaZion '09?

invaZion '09 is the world's first contest for
stereoscopic shortfilms! And you can be part of it.

Due to the help of computers in animation, creating 3-D stereo movies became
much easier and more affordable than ever. In fact, adding depth to screens is
by far the greatest leap in cinematopgraphy since stereo audio and color. More
than that, it´s the next logical step. That´s what we believe in. That`s what
the future is all about.

Creating 3-D stereo movies means much more than "only" rendering a second
camera view: used wisely, it can provide a complete new way of directing
movies, like adding dramaturgy, modifying perceived size or volume and even the
emotional proximity to the audience through depth. It also means thinking of
the newly gained Z-space allready during the planning and production phase of
your project.

more3D and its industry partners now call for the invaZion challenge as a
worldwide shortfilm competition, giving you the final reason to get ready for
3-D stereo, measuring yourself with artists all over the globe. The winners
will be announced in May, 2009.

I want to join - what next?

Basically you are all set when you know how to create 3D animations with
standard software packages like 3DSmax, Cinema4D, Maya or XSI. Simply follow
the following steps and submit your stereo movie in 2008 to more3D. That's it.

get the recommended stereo camera setup for your rendering package. If
it's not there yet, wait a few days. it will come.Download the "How
To" white paper that will teach you some of the 3-D stereo basics you

Imagine you have a quarter-million dollars in government checks. Imagine that if you were

to sign just one of the checks and take the money, you would be selling out your grandfather.

You would cancel the fact that your rich heritage entitles you to ancestral forest highlands,

lakes, rivers and marshes. You would be signing what amounts to a bill-of-sale for your heritage.

The Klamath Marsh once included over ten-thousand acres of wocas. this was a bulb plant

which was harvested in the Fall and roasted. It could be made into a paste or baked as a staple

of the Klamath people.

rectify for you a wrong done to your people long ago. You remind Congress that it was wrong

for them to take the land in the first place.

Imagine while you are doing what you know is right, you are alone in your struggle except

keeps you from giving up. You never give up. You announce that you will not give up if you have to live to be 100!

Then suddenly your wife and foremost supporter dies, leaving you truly alone in your struggle.

Return of the Raven, is a different kind of western. Now in the 20th century the Indians are the winners! Edison

Chiloquin is the grandson of an American Indian head man, commonly referred to as a "chief" by the white man.

A living legend, Chiloquin is the first individual Native American to make the U.S. Government give back land.

And he made worldwide headlines refusing over a quarter-million dollars in government money.

In the 1950's Congress passed legislation which eliminated Indian lands and tribes throughout the country.

The action devastated Chiloquin and his people. For not only did Congress "legally" steal land from millions of

ndians, including over two-thousand Klamath, they effectively dissolved entire tribes, including the Klamath.

"RETURN OF THE RAVEN" is the true historic account of Chiloquin's ten-year battle to reclaim the land which

was once his grandfather's village. Grandfather Chiloquinas was once the head man of the Plaikini people.

The Plaikni were one of a number of distinct tribes and family groups who were later grouped together by the

White man and called "Klamath."

The Plaikini Village contains many of the landmarks Chiloquin remembers as a young man: There is Medicine Rock,

where one goes to meditate and regain the strength of his or her spirit. there are the sweat lodges where one who enters

with a clean mind can be cleansed mentally, physically and spiritually. Then there is the Profile of the Indian Chief

carved by The Creator into the rock high in the cliff above the village by centuries of erosion--wind, rain and lightning.

The story was filmed in the beautiful mountains of Oregon, and enhanced throughout with authentic traditional music.

For ten years our film crew followed Chiloquin as the U.S. government paid up to a quarter million dollars each to

other members of his tribe. True to his convictions Chiloquin refused his share of the money. "The Earth is my mother.

I cannot sell Mother Earth," he maintained. After seemingly insurmountable odds, and at times desperately in need

of money, Chiloquin never cashed his quarter-million dollar check! Instead, he brought his cause to the attention

of Congress and asked them to rectify the situation which they had created.

The Sacred Fire burns at the Plaikni Village. Tended night and day for seven years, it never went out.

The Sacred Fire Burns!

At home in Oregon, Chiloquin began a vigil. He started the Sacred Fire which was tended throughout

the seasons. It burned for seven years and never once went out. Chiloquin believed the smoke from this

fire carried his hopes into the spirit world. In 1980 as one of his last official acts, President Jimmy Carter

signed into law the Chiloquin Act. Historically this became the first Congressional action which returned

land to an individual Native American.

Return of the Raven is true-- an incredibly inspiring and timeless story, thought provoking and adored

by both children and adults. It is also the perfect video to explain a century of U.S. Government and Indian

relations. The story is captured in a warm, personal approach, (unlike some programs which rely on sepia

tone photos and actors.)

The program is both entertaining and educational. It was produced with cooperation from the National

Endowment for the Humanities and the Oregon Committee for the Humanities. In addition the video was

the first place winner of the first annual Oregon Production Arts Network Film Festival.
