A room at the Bayou La Batre Inn and Suites exploded on Monday afternoon and police said three people ran away from the scene.

Bayou La Batre police spokesman Cpl. Jason Edwards said 35-year-old Carlton Parmer, who is being treated at University of South Alabama Medical Center for burns over more than a third of his body, will be charged in connection with the explosion.

Police were searching for Brandy Lambert Parmer, 30, of Mobile, and Dereck Robinson, 24, of Chunchula, who also ran away from the hotel room, Edwards said.

The three suspects are expected to be charged with first-degree manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and first-degree criminal mischief, Edwards said.

I'll continue to occasionally blog about religion and media, along with KtBlogger Nathan Schneider, but the main attractions are feature essays and stories, published every Monday and Thursday (and sometimes Saturday), by writers, artists, and photographers covering the religious, political, and aesthetic spectrums. Michael Muhammad Knight writes on the man he calls Allah; Nina Burleigh investigates the unholy world of the Israeli antiquities trade; Meera Subramanian reports on the "100 Unspoken Rules" of a Hindu mangili pondu ceremony; Nathan Schneider compares Al Qaeda recruitment imagery with Donald Rumsfeld's "Full Armor of God"; Revealer editor Kathryn Joyce accepts the 2009 "Vulgaria Child Catcher of the Year Award"; novelist Ilana Stanger-Ross investigates the "Perfect Breasts" of orthodox Brooklyn; and I chip in with "Naked and Guilty," on the eros of evangelicalism and a hell house in Texas.

Hey, here's an affordable one: my NYT bestseller, The Family, out in paperback this week! So is its lovely review in the Journal of American History, which breaks from academic form to declare that The Family "does for fundamentalism what Greil Marcus' Lipstick Traces: A Secret History of the 20th Century did for punk."

And here's an even better book: erstwhile Revealer editor Peter Manseau's Songs for the Butcher's Daughter, also out in paperback this week! It's a beautiful novel about pogroms, poetry, and the death of print -- literally -- but what makes it really unique is that it won the National Jewish Book Award for fiction.. Peter is the first goy to take the prize in half a century.

Back in 2004, Peter and made a book together called Killing the Buddha: A Heretic's Bible. Amazon apparently loved it so much that lately they've been attributing all sorts of books to the Manseau & Sharlet team. Our latest collaboration is a book we traveled back in time to write, Calvin and the Reformation, published in 1962 by "Peter and Sharlet, Jeff Manseau." But that's really kind of a specialized work. For the general reader, we recommend our other latest collaboration. Here's the premise: An elven witch, a bar mitzvah cheater, and a Bible camp saboteur walk into a bar... and nine years later they walk out with a book: Believer, Beware: First-Person Dispatches from the Margins of Faith, an anthology of KillingTheBuddha.com coming from Beacon Press on July 1.

Köln (medien-news) - Künftig können alle Absolventen der WAK - Westdeutsche Akademie für Kommunikation e. V. an der Europäischen Fachhochschule (EUFH) weiterstudieren. Die EUFH anerkennt die volle Studienzeit, weshalb in 27 Monaten der Bachelor of Arts-Abschluss erworben werden kann. Gestartet wird im Oktober mit dem Kommunikationswirt/in WAK.

Fortan besteht für alle Studiengänge des neuen WAK Studiensystems die Möglichkeit, durch ein zusätzliches Aufbaustudium den "Bachelor of Arts" auf der EUFH zu erwerben. Die entsprechenden Aufbaustudiengänge wurden speziell auf das WAK Studienprogramm ausgelegt, so dass die bisher erbrachten Vorleistungen voll angerechnet werden. Die sonst dafür benötigten 7 Semester reduzieren sich dadurch auf 4,5 Semester. Somit
haben die Studierenden die Möglichkeit, in der Hälfte der Zeit den FIBAA-akkreditierten und staatlich anerkannten Bachelor-Abschluss zu erhalten.

Gestartet wird mit dem Fachwirt/in für Kommunikation WAK, bzw. Communications Manager WAK, so die künftige Berufsbezeichnung. Schwerpunktmäßig werden im Bachelorstudium Themen aus den Bereichen Betriebswirtschaftslehre und Management vermittelt, die eben noch stärker auf eine spätere Fach- und Führungsposition vorbereiten. Die zusätzlich erworbenen Kompetenzen in den Bereichen Betriebswirtschaft und Unternehmensmanagement in Kombination mit der marketingpolitisch ausgerichteten Vorbildung, verschafft der Karriere einen weiteren Schub. So öffnen sich mit dem B.A. die Türen für eine mittlere bis höhere Managementlaufbahn.

Das Aufbaustudium ist berufsbegleitend und findet an zwei Abenden pro Woche von 18.00 bis ca. 21.15 Uhr und an jedem zweiten Samstag von 8.30 bis ca. 15.00 Uhr statt. Die monatlichen Studiengebühren belaufen sich auf 360 Euro zuzüglich einer einmaligen Aufnahmegebühr von 300 Euro. Das Studium findet im Studienzentrum der CBS - Cologne Business School in der Hardefuststraße in Köln statt.

Die WAK veranstaltet am 22. Juni um 19.00 Uhr einen eigenen Info-Abend, um alle Fragen rund um das Thema "Bachelor" zu beantworten und alle Einzelheiten, die das Studium betreffen, zu erörtern. Hierfür ist eine Anmeldung erforderlich, die über das Internet möglich ist.

DIE EUFH - EUROPÄISCHE FACHHOCHSCHULE

Gegründet wurde die Brühler Fachhochschule 2001. Sie ist eine private, staatlich anerkannte Fachhochschule mit einem dualen Studienangebot. Ähnlich wie an der WAK wird deshalb auch hier die berufliche Ausbildung mit einem praxisbezogenen Studium kombiniert. Amit most kitaláltak, az a Hírmátrix Guardian Zeitgeist. (Nyilván britek is azt gondolták, hogy idegen névvel jobban eladható az egyébként nem, teljesen egyedi áru.)

Nem csalás, nem ámítás, ez a Zeitgeist igen közeli rokona a "mi"  Hírmátrixunknak. (A Guardian fejlesztői az ötletet nyilván nem tőlük szedték. Mint annak idején erre több hozzászóló is felhívta a figyelmet, a NOL terméke "nem előzmény nélküli"...)

A Zeitgeist bizonyos értelemben kevesebbet tud, mint a Hírmátrix, mert nem játszik a négyszögek méretével (nem jelzi az egyes témák fontosságát) - ennek köszönhetően nem is töri kiszámíthatatlan módon a sorokat.





Fontos különbség, hogy a Zeitgeist felületén megjelenő híreket nem csak a Guardian felhasználói, hanem az "újság" híreit a közösségi hálózatokban továbbadók, csócsálók, véleményezők is vezérlik.

Nem ismerem az adatokat, nem tudom, mennyire dobják meg a forgalmat ezek az eszközök, játéknak viszont nem rosszak. Úgy húsz percig.

Azért találhatnának egy rendes nevet szegénynek.
